“Bridge the gap with Shaban: prepare for Ramadan and strengthen your faith!”
Shaaban is significant for a number of reasons. Muslims usually start getting ready for the month of Ramadan around this time.
Muslims believe that God gave Prophet Mohammed PBH, the instruction to move the direction in which Muslims face when they pray, or Qiblah, from the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem to the Holy Kaabah in Mecca in the middle of the month of Shaaban.
For thirteen years in Mecca and for almost 18 months after the Prophet Mohammed PBH migrated to Madinah, the Al-Aqsa Mosque served as the Qiblah.
Prophet Mohammed PBH was given verses from the Quran that told him and all Muslims to face the Kaabah in Mecca during prayer. The majority of interpretations place this episode in Shaaban’s midsection.
According to the Prophet Mohammed’s PBH practices, fasting is encouraged during Shaaban.Prophet Mohammed PBH was reportedly asked, “Which fast is the most honorable after the fasting of Ramadan?” by well-known friend Anas bin Malik.RA”Fasting of Shaaban in observance of Ramadan,” said Prophet Mohammed.PBH
Fasting during Shaaban is similar to training your body and mind for Ramadan. Many Muslims may struggle when they first begin to fast in Ramadan, but if they began fasting a few days earlier in Shaaban, their body may get acclimated to it and they wouldn’t feel quite as sleepy and weak when Ramadan finally arrived.
Shaaban is a forerunner to Ramadan and shares practices with Ramadan such as fasting, reciting the Quran, and charitable contributions.
“The Messenger of The All mighty ALLAH used to fast until we believed he would never break his fast, and not fast until we believed he would never fast,” Prophet Mohammed’s PBH wife Aisha RA is quoted as saying in a narrated statement. Except for Ramadan, I never saw the Prophet of ALLAH fast for a full month; he broke his fast the most during Shaaban.
The prophet’s adopted son, Usamah ibn Zaid, narrated, “I requested to the Prophet, PBH “O Messenger of God! I have never seen you fast as much as you do in Shaaban. People ignore the month between Rajab and Shaaban, according to the Prophet PBH, and because it is during this month that God is made aware of the people’s deeds,
Though fasting is made obligatory during Ramadan, Muslims believe fasting in Shaaban is valuable in a number of ways since it allows them to make preparations for Ramadan.
Many Muslim scholars and others used to recite and read the Holy Quran while fasting in Shaaban, which also helps us get our worship routines in place for the upcoming month of Ramadan. Muslims believe that if they increase their worship practices in Shaaban, they will reap the benefits during Ramadan.
